in 1927, Sarasota became the winter home of the Greatest Show on Earth, forever linking the city to imagination, spectacle, and bold artistic ambition. One hundred years later, Asolo Rep celebrates that legacy with a season inspired by one of the most transformative years in American culture—from Hollywood and jazz to Broadway and the circus that helped shape Sarasota’s identity.
At the heart of the season is The Day the Circus Came to Town, a world premiere musical created for Sarasota, alongside unforgettable classics, exhilarating mysteries, and stories that celebrate the enduring power of live theatre.
As Producing Artistic Director Peter Rothstein puts it:
