FIRST SEASON (Pack) is excited to make their Asolo Rep debut. Sophia is a Grammy-nominated artist who was featured in The Good Swimmer and Place at BAM Next Wave Festival and played Eve in REV. 23 at New York Prototype Festival. They’ve performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Jennifer Hudson, Kurt Elling, and Chance the Rapper. Their song “I See the Light” is featured in Spike Lee’s Chiraq.

 

JONATHAN FLEITES*

They/He

FIRST SEASON (Woof) is thrilled to be making their/his Asolo Rep debut. Some of Jonathan’s recent credits include A Chorus Line (Paul San Marco) directed by original cast member Mitzi Hamilton, Birth of the Beat National Tour (Lead Soloist), RENT (Angel), and Evita (Ensemble). She made her Broadway debut in Mean Girls as the standby for the roles of Cady and Janis, and later took over the role of Janis Sarkisian. She graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre. She was recently the assistant director for A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet, currently playing off-Broadway at the DR2 theatre in New York City. ISHITA MILI

FIRST SEASON (Pack) Ishita Mili is a Bengali American director and choreographer based in NJ. After extensively training in bharatanatyam, hip hop, chhau, and contemporary dance, Ishita founded IMGE Dance to use her cultural roots to share global stories with artists of diverse backgrounds. IMGE has since been highlighted at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, New Victory Theater, and Seattle International Dance Festival. Ishita was also featured in Dance Informa and Pulse Magazine UK as a rising South Asian artist.

 

DAYNA LEE PALYA

She/Her

THIRD YEAR STUDENT, FIRST SEASON (Pack) is delighted to join the Asolo Rep company and let the sun shine in with this beautiful production of Hair. She earned her BFA from Western Michigan University and will graduate this spring from FSU/Asolo Repertory Conservatory with her MFA. Dayna understudied Greta Ohlsson in Murder on the Orient Express in the 2020 Asolo Rep season. Some past favorite roles include Callie in Stop Kiss and Viola in Shakespeare in Love.

SANGEETHA SANTHEBENNUR*

She/Her

FIRST SEASON (Pack/Dance Captain) is a graduate of Rutgers University, training with competitive hip-hop team RDT, and has been featured on screen as a dancer in works with Megan Thee Stallion, Jamaican artist Tessellated, Ilham, and more. She has performed with various dance companies at venues including NRG Stadium, New Victory Theater, and Lincoln Center. Most recently, she's been part of the ensemble in the development of The Karate Kid – The Musical. She is extremely thrilled to be making her debut at Asolo Rep!

 

ETHAN SAVIET* 

FIRST SEASON (Margaret Mead/Pack) is beyond excited to be making his Asolo Rep debut. Most recently he was seen as Skimbleshanks the railway cat in the National Tour of CATS. Other regional credits include Syracuse Stage, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and The Rev Theater Company. Ethan received his BFA from Syracuse University

 

NORA SCHELL*

FIRST SEASON (Hud/Vocal Captain) graduated from The University of Michigan with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a minor in Gender, Race and Nation. Their off-Broadway debut in Spamilton garnered them Drama Desk, Drama League, and Clive Barnes Award nominations. They were dubbed "a name to watch" by New York Times critic Ben Brantley and received rave reviews from a multitude of renowned pundits. Nora made their Broadway debut in Jagged Little Pill. With their educational background, they continue to cultivate a career focused on the intersection of performing and social justice. 

 

GARRICK SIGL

THIRD YEAR STUDENT, FIRST SEASON (Pack) is an MFA student at the Florida State University/ Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. He recently understudied Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express at Asolo Rep. Other roles include Stanley Sheinbaum in Twilight: Los Angeles,1992 and Casca in Julius Caesar. He is also a teaching artist with Asolo Rep. Garrick is thrilled to return to the stage and radiate groovy vibrations in Hair.

 

DEREK SIKKEMA

They/Them

THIRD YEAR STUDENT, FIRST SEASON (Pack) previously worked for Asolo Rep as an understudy (Michel the Conductor) in Murder on the Orient Express, and they are ecstatic to be working in the ensemble for Hair. Derek is currently in their third year at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. FIRST SEASON (Pack) is an actor, published writer, and up and coming musician from Ithaca, New York. You may have caught him on stage as the Emcee in Cabaret, Danny Zuko in Grease, Moritz in Spring Awakening, or Bobby Strong in Urinetown! Matthew has also appeared on screen as Rupert Smith in The Andy Warhol Diaries (Netflix) and in The Preppy Murders (AMC). Regionally, Dede’s work has appeared at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Steppenwolf, Arena Stage, and more. She has worked in television with Netflix, Comedy Central, and FOX Shortcoms. She earned her MFA at the Yale School of Drama and has received Obie, Lucille Lortel, Helen Hayes, Theatre Bay Area, and Jeff Awards, along with four Drama Desk nominations.

 

MATTHEW BROOKS* 

FOURTH SEASON (Assistant Stage Manager) could not be more excited to be back at Asolo Rep. His previous shows in Sarasota were Shakespeare in LoveRhinocerosRoe, Julius Caesar, and Knoxville. His work has also been seen on tour around the country with Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends (TheaterWorksUSA); A Christmas Story, The Musical (Big League Productions); and An Officer and a Gentleman—The Musical (Work Light Productions). Additional regional credits: New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Dorset Theatre Festival, and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Matthew is a proud graduate of the stage management program at the University of Illinois.

SAMANTHA KAUFMAN

FIRST SEASON (Intimacy Coordinator) is excited to make her Asolo Rep debut. She is an actor, fight director, intimacy director, and teaching artist. She is based in the Midwest region and travels to perform in and fight/intimacy/movement direct productions across the nation. Samantha is a Certified Intimacy Director with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and was certified with Intimacy Directors International. A Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. A Jeff Nominated Fight Choreographer. GALT MACDERMOT (1928-2018)

(Music) Two-time Grammy® and Tony Award®-winning composer Galt MacDermot is best known for the music he wrote for the Broadway scores of Hair and Two Gentlemen of Verona. His work spans the gamut of performing arts and encompasses a wealth of genres, crossing the boundaries of jazz, folk, funk, gospel, reggae, and classical styles. Galt was born and raised in Montreal. He received a Bachelor of Music from Cape Town University, South Africa. He wrote more than 3,000 songs, and his music is enjoyed in 122 countries worldwide. Hair has been performed in over 40 countries.

 

VICTOR MEYRICH

FIFTY-THIRD SEASON (Director of Production & Operations) is a graduate of Carnegie Tech and worked at New York Shakespeare Festival, Brandeis, University of California Institute of Repertory, APA, American Conservatory Theater, and again in New York. As head of production and technical staffs, he is responsible for the overall technical operation of Asolo Rep and its facilities. He wrote the architecture program for both the Center for the Performing Arts and the Koski II expansion and is the owner’s representative on both projects. He has been a member of the Asolo Rep family since 1969.

 

ISHITA MILI

JAMES RADO 

(Book and Lyrics) is an actor, songwriter, and co-creator of the characters, story, dialogue, and lyrics of Hair. In college, he wrote the music and lyrics for two shows, Interlude and Cross Your Fingers, before becoming an actor. In 1964, he proposed to Gerome Ragni that they write a show about the hippies and anti-war movement around them. Gerome came aboard with his exciting experimental poetry. Hair opened on Broadway in 1968 starring James and Gerome in the lead roles. The rest is history. Over the intervening years, James has been working on American Rainbow and Sun.

 

GEROME RAGNI (1935-1991)

(Book and Lyrics) appeared on Broadway in Hamlet and starred off-Broadway in The Knack. He studied experimental theater with The Open Theater (which he named). With James Rado, he co-created Hair, in which he originated the role of Berger. He also authored the Broadway musical Dude, with score by Hair composer Galt MacDermot. He wrote Jack Sound and His Dog Star Blowing His Final Trumpet on the Day of Doom with composer Steve Margoshes. He and James Rado also collaborated on a new musical called Sun. A multi-faceted artist, he originated "paper-napkin art" and wrote poetry under the name Virginia Miller.

 

JOSH RHODES 

EIGHTH SEASON (Director/Choreographer) is thrilled to be back to “Let the Sunshine In.” At Asolo Rep, Josh directed Ana Isabelle and FriendsThe Sound of MusicEvita, and Guys and Dolls, and choreographed BarnumWorking, My Fair Lady, and Yentl, as well as the upcoming Knoxville. Other directing credits include Mack & Mabel, Grand Hotel (NY City Center Encores!); The Who’s Tommy (Kennedy Center); Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville (Old Globe Theatre); Paint Your WagonJersey Boys (Muny); Guys and Dolls (Old Globe); Spamalot (5th Ave.); Showboat (Bucks County Playhouse); and Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. He also choreographed the Broadway productions of CinderellaIt Shoulda Been You, First Date, and Bright Star. On London’s West End, he choreographed Carousel at the English National Opera and Sweeney Todd starring Emma Thompson. Other choreography credits include Company starring Neil Patrick Harris and Sondheim: The Birthday Concert (PBS) and the U.K. tour of Doctor Dolittle. FIFTH SEASON (Associate Artistic Director, Local Casting Director) is a Tony®-nominated producer and "Key" member of The Ring Of Keys. Celine has developed new work with Musical Theatre Factory, NYMF, Kidoons, Tamasha, and National Queer Theatre, as well as creating Asolo Rep’s premiere new work series, Asolo Rep: Ground Floor. At Asolo Rep, Celine directed Camelot, We Need A Little Christmas, The Lifespan of a Fact, Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Tempest. They will also be directing this upcoming season's production of Bess Wohl's Grand Horizons. Other Recent Projects: Trayf (New Rep); Drowning in Cairo (N.Q.T); Spike Heels, A Doll’s House (Studio Theatre); Motherf***er with the Hat (FSU/Asolo Conservatory); and the award-winning indie short film Wildflower. Celine is a New Georges affiliated artist, member of the 2018/19 MTC Directing Fellowship class, and was awarded an SDC Observership and Asolo Rep Directing Fellowship. NIA SCIARRETTA*

TENTH SEASON (Production Stage Manager) Favorite Asolo Rep credits include stage manager for last year’s Terrace Stage season, as well as for The Sound of Music, Into the Breeches, The Music Man, Sweeney Todd, Sweat, Shakespeare in Love, Roe, and assistant stage manager for Rhinoceros, Guys and Dolls, All the Way, South Pacific, and Hero: The Musical. Previous off-Broadway credits include work on Jesus Hopped the A Train, In the Blood, and The Wayside Motor Inn at the Signature Theatre. Nia has also worked with Creede Repertory Theatre, the Hangar Theatre, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, the Flea Theatre, and Penguin Rep.

 

JOANNA LYNNE STAUB

FIRST SEASON (Sound Designer) is proud to be making her debut at Asolo Rep. She has previously designed at Alliance Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, 5th Avenue Theatre, Goodman Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, The Nashville Children’s Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Public Theatre, and Seattle Rep. Joanna has extensive credits engineering and associate designing Broadway shows and touring companies. Her TV credits include audio engineering for the NBC-Live! productions of The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, and The Wiz. She has lectured Sound Design at Ithaca College, Princeton University, and University of Cincinnati. She holds degrees in music, audio engineering, and technical theatre from Ithaca College and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. jlssound.com

SEVENTH SEASON (Music Supervisor and Additional Arrangements) is thrilled to be back at Asolo Rep, where he has worked on Ana Isabelle & Friends, The Sound of Music, Evita, Guys and Dolls, Josephine, and Luck Be a Lady. On Broadway, he has worked as the associate conductor of The Cher Show, as well as a sub on The Band’s Visit and Tootsie. Other regional credits include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Muny), Bliss (5th Avenue), Footloose (Kennedy Center), Paint Your Wagon (Muny), and Les Misérables (Dallas Theater Center). Sinai received a degree in Music Theory and Composition from NYU. Most recently, he became a father to Olive & Lila, his favorite gig yet. For Brianne, always.

 

CHRISTIE CHILES TWILLIE

FIRST SEASON (Music Director) is a professional pianist, music director, sound designer, and composer. Her regional credits include Five Guys Named Moe, Newsies, and The Gospel at Colonus (Skylight) and the Chicago premier of Minnie’s Boys (Porchlight). Christie won the 2019 Footlights Best Musical Direction Award for a Professional Production, a Rachel Rockwell Fierce Women Behind the Table honor, a BTAA nomination for Best Music Direction - Original Score (Yellowman), and she was a Chicago Broadway World finalist for Best Music Direction (Big Fish). Her compositional credits include A Raisin in the Sun (Invictus), America 2.0 (Definition); The Niceties (Forward), VietGone (GEVA), and The Way She Spoke (Milwaukee Chamber). Christie’s film scores can be heard in The Pandemic Trilogy, The Clearing, and Alone.
