Inspire future artists and theatre goers with Asolo Rep! Your designated gift to Education will further Asolo Rep’s commitment to ensuring our community’s young people from all backgrounds can experience the power of theatre.
Each season your gift can be designated for one or both of our Access to the Arts programs: Main Stages and Shakespeare On Tour. These initiatives reach more than 16,000 students across the entire state of Florida from a diverse range of ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Main Stages brings local student groups to Asolo Rep for live performances in the Mertz Theatre or Cook Theatre, through special matinee performances and student group tickets to public performances. Asolo Rep teaching artists create production guides and conduct in-class workshops, providing students an introduction to the work’s themes and insight into the historical background before they attend a performance. Your contribution helps underwrite discounted student tickets for Asolo Rep productions.
“One of my students who’s generally not very motivated or vocal in school told me that the visit to Born Yesterday was her best day of all three years of middle school.”
Shakespeare On Tour takes an adapted 45-minute version of a Shakespeare classic to schools and community venues in nine Florida counties. Each On Tour production features actors from the FSU/Asolo Conservatory, a top 10 national graduate acting program. Actors lead talkbacks with students following each performance, discussing thematic elements of the play and answering student questions about the play and career opportunities in theatre. Your contribution helps underwrite tour production and transportation costs.
“This play (The Tragedy of Hamlet: On Tour) completely changed my mind about Shakespeare. I laughed, I cried, and I felt scared at moments too.”
Your gift to Theatre Arts Education can also be designated for Asolo Rep’s Kaleidoscope program. Through partnerships with The Haven, Easter Seals of Southwest Florida, Bayshore High School and Oak Park School, this decades-long program gives students and adults with special needs new means of self-expression through training in movement and performance, culminating in a live show for their families and friends in the Mertz Theatre.
